Indianapolis Colts Notes, Quotes 2009-03-11
--CB Kelvin Hayden will realize immediate and immense impact from the five-year, $43 million contract he signed earlier this month. Hayden will count $6.68 million against the 2009 salary cap.

--Former Baltimore Colts WR Raymond Berry has been where former Indianapolis Colts WR Marvin Harrison is as Harrison ponders his immediate future in the league.

"My 12th year in the National Football League I had a very good year and physically I was fine," Berry told the Indianapolis Star recently. "I came back for my 13th year and the lights on the instrument panel started blinking. I didn't recognize what was happening, but my body was no longer the same, and it started showing up in training camp with a muscle pulled here and there that I'd never had before. My knee started swelling; I'd never had that before.

"To make a long story short, if I'd have known what was going to happen my 13th year, I'd never have come back because my body was not up to it. Professional football is a high-speed, full-speed game, and you lose just a little bit and you've lost a lot. It's kind of like a fastball pitcher that loses a little bit. Before long, the home runs are going to start coming. There's a small edge there.

"I don't know where Marvin is right now, but it's just inevitable the injuries will pile up, and it takes a little bit away from you."

--TE Jamie Petrowski, who spent most of the 2008 season on the Colts' practice squad, joins LB Rufus Alexander, S Brannon Condren, P Mike Dragosavich, CB Brandon Foster, WR San Giguere, OT Corey Hilliard, CB Travis Key, LB Michael Okwo, WR Taj Smith and CB Brandon Sumrall as one of the 11 players who have been signed to Indianapolis' 2009 off-season roster.

Alexander, Condren, Foster, Giguere, Hilliard, Smith and Sumrall all spent time on Indianapolis' practice squad last season.

--There have been no updates on where the location of the Colts' summer training camp will be held. A decision is expected in the couple of weeks whether the camp will be conducted at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., where it's been since 1999, or at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., where it was from 1984 to 1998.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We kept communication open. Especially up to the last portion, he would call and ask me where it was and what I thought. You know, I was very frank with him. We have that relationship where you just kind of put it all out there. And he made it very clear he wanted me to be here and he was going to do whatever he could do to try to push it. But there was only so much you could do. Really, kind of the saving grace of the whole thing came with the additional cap money. Cap space is what really kind of broke the thing loose." -- C Jeff Saturday on communicating with QB Peyton Manning during Saturday's contract negotiations with the Colts.
