Indianapolis Colts Notes, Quotes 2009-04-03
--One national prime-time appearance and a familiar face highlight the Colts preseason schedule.

The team's only national TV game is Thursday, Aug. 20 when it hosts the Philadelphia Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium (8 p.m.)The Colts open the preseason at home against the Minnesota Vikings the week of Aug. 13-17. The specific date has not been finalized.

After the two home games, the Colts travel to Detroit the week of Aug. 27-31 and to Cincinnati either Sept. 3 or Sept. 4 for their preseason finale.

--The preseason matchup with the Bengals has become a ritual. The two teams, connected by a 115-mile stretch of I-74, are meeting for the 18th time since the Colts relocated to Indy in 1984. It marks the ninth straight season they'll meet in the preseason, the eighth time it's occurred on the final weekend of the preseason.

--The team has won only three of its past 16 preseason games and hasn't posted a winning record (3-1) since 2003.

--Indianapolis waived linebacker Buster Davis. Claimed off waivers from Detroit last season, Davis appeared in seven games, three as a starter. He finished with 26 tackles.

Davis' departure leaves the Colts with seven linebackers: Gary Brackett, Clint Session, Philip Wheeler, Rufus Alexander, Jordan Senn, Michael Okwo and Adam Seward.

--Indianapolis senior executive vice president Pete Ward recently recalled the team's move to Indianapolis from Baltimore in 1984 in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the franchise's relocation:

"I think it was about 10 o'clock, and sure enough, here come the vans, followed by a full-sized bus. I couldn't figure out what the bus was all about. So I stepped up onto the bus, and it was filled with packers. They all looked like Hells Angels. That was the beginning of our night," he said.

"My first night in Indy, I couldn't sleep, and I got on Meridian Street and drove south from the Northside to see if I could find the 'happening' part of town. I never came to it. You got all the way downtown, and things then didn't look too promising for somebody who just came from the East Coast. It's obviously changed a lot, and I love being here."

--Former Colts coach Tony Dungy has been invited to join a White House faith-based advisory council. Dungy retired from the Colts in January. He previously worked on a White House council on civic participation under President George W. Bush.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Here was the big plus. Over the years, he has been able to adjust and adapt to what was needed. He looked at his personnel and adjusted to his personnel. When he was at Denver, he played similar to our style. In other cases when he was in Denver, if he couldn't get enough pressure with his two ends rushing he brought a little more pressure in terms of blitzing and things if that nature." -- Colts coach Jim Caldwell on the addition of former Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant coach Larry Coyer as the team's defensive coordinator.
