Indianapolis Colts Notes, Quotes 2009-04-27
--QB Curtis Painter is the first Indiana born player selected by the Colts in the draft since TE Ken Dilger in 1995. Painter is from Vincennes, Ind.

--A three-day rookie camp is set for Friday through Sunday at the Colts' Indianapolis practice facility. The workouts are closed to the public.

--The Colts will return to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for the 11th consecutive year for training camp. There had been speculation that Indianapolis may move the camp back to Anderson (Ind.) University, where the Colts held training camp from 1984 to 1998.

"They (Rose-Hulman) have the ideal facility, there's no question about it. We love the people there. The ladies that take care of us in the dormitories, the folks in the food service. All of the people that operate the facility are great. They know the drill and we know the drill," team president Bill Polian said.

--Training camp is slated to start on Sunday, Aug. 2. The first practices will be August 3.

--The Colts signed OG Brandon Barnes to a two-year contract. The 6-2, 315-pound Barnes was on the roster of the Green Bay Blizzard of arenafootball2.

He is the second player from that league signed by the team, joining C Kyle DeVan of the Boise Burn. Barnes played at Grand Valley State and signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008. He did not make the Ravens regular-season roster.

DeVan had been the starting center for the Boise (Idaho) Burn of arenafootball2.

"I'm excited to get another opportunity to play in the NFL and am ecstatic about joining the Colts organization," he said.

DeVan, who started 37 games at Oregon State, spent a portion of the 2008 season on the New York Jets practice squad.

--The Colts have freed up $480,000 in salary-cap space for 2009 by reworking the contract of wide receiver Reggie Wayne. The bookkeeping maneuver leaves the team about $7 million under the league's $127 million cap.

In a routine move, the team lowered Wayne's cap number from $7.44 million to $6.96 million by converting a portion of his 2009 base salary ($5.47 million) into a bonus and prorating it over the final three years of the deal.

--The Colts re-signed S Matt Giordano to a one-year, $670,000 contract. The 2005 fourth-round draft pick became an unrestricted free agent in February. He has appeared in 55 regular-season games, six as a starter, in four seasons.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "This guy isn't necessarily the big guy in the middle. He's a bigger guy than we've had. We still need length, we still need athleticism, we still need change of direction. The under tackle is still a guy that has to be able to get through the gap and disrupt. But it's hard to win consistently with 275 pound guys in there. It helps if they're 290 to 300. And then of course, the nose tackle is a different story. He could even be bigger if you could find one." -- Colts team president Bill Polian on the selection of former Southern California DT Fili Moala.
